Ulum Buttler Thurman


Gladys - Funeral services for Ulum Butler Thurman, 78, of Rt. 2 Gladys, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Swan Creek Baptist Church by the Revs J. W. Williams and J. R. Hutchins. He died early Tuesday in his residence.
Born in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of John Will and Angeline Dawson Thurman. A farmer and a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his widow Mrs. Nannie Hall Thurman, three sons, Wilbur D. Thurman, Ulum B. Thurman, Jr. both of Gladys and Elton Morgan Thurman of Long Island, five daughters, Mrs. P. J. Robertson, Mrs. Alease Brown, Mrs. Lewis E. Hall all of Altavista and Mrs. Melvin Roberts of Gladys, three brothers, George Thurman, Tom Thurman and Leewood Thurman all of Gladys, a sister, Mrs. John Hall of Gladys; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Thurman Family Cemetery. The body is at the residence. Finch and Finch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
