Robert W. DePriest, JR.

Robert William DePriest, Jr. of Winfall, died at 5:25 a.m. yesterday at Memorial Hospital as the result of a bullet wound in his abdomen received last Friday night. The 52 year old Campbell County farmer was said to have been shot by his nephew, Thomas Mitchell. Sheriff Jack Miles of Rustburg who arrested Mitchell said Mitchell told him he had shot in self-defense. The wound was inflicted with a .32 caliber pistol. Mr. DePriest was born April 14, 1888 in Campbell County, a son of the late Robert William and Alice Arnstead Depriest. He was a member of Christ Church.
Besides his wife he is survived by three children, Mrs. Annie Lindsey, Mrs. Mattie Bailey and Miss Nancy DePriest, all of Campbell County, and the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. M. P. Callaham of Maryland, Mrs. B. G. Patterson of Arlington, Mrs. E. G. Shaner of Lynchburg and Mrs. Ara Wise of Salem.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. today at the grave in Christ Cemetery.

Funeral of Mr. DePriest Gladys - Aug. 19 - Funeral services for Robert W. DePriest were conducted at Christ Church this afternoon by the Rev. J. H. Conner and Rev. J. K. Holman. Honorary pallbearers were Artie Tucker, S. J. Thompson, Dr. G. S. Bowers, J. I. Bowers, Robert A. Russell, Holcombe Morris, Leon Ward, Herbert Moore, Addison Morris, William Brown, J. M. Holland, W. W. Daniel and F. P. Woodall. Ative pall bearers were Herman Brown, Earl Mitchell, Wesley Kerr, George Kerr, Parker Lawhorne and Walter Jefferson.
Flower bearers were Miss Edith DePriest, Miss Irene DePriest, Mrs. Russell Reynolds, Miss Lena Mitchell, Miss Ivey Moorman, Miss Kathleen Shaner, Mrs. Earl Mitchell, Mrs. M. L. Johnson, Miss Dorothy Mitchell and Miss Louise DePriest. The News, Tuesday, August 20, 1940
