Mattie Depriest Wray
Mattie DePriest Wray, 87, of 5475 East Ferry Road, Gladys, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at her home. She was twice married, first to the late John B. Bailey and second to the late Robert C. Wray.
Born Feb. 19, 1916, in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Robert DePriest and Katie Mitchell DePriest. She was a member of Gladys Wesleyan Church and a retired employee of Universal Electric.
She is survived by three daughters, Delama Gowen and her husband, James of Gladys, Didamia Wood and her husband, W.T. Sr., and Arlene Wray Cudney, all of Madison Heights; one sister, Nancy Kerr and her husband, Wesley of Gladys; two step-sisters, Mae Torrence of Rustburg and Annie Hudson of Richmond; ten grandchildren, Donna Kerr, Michael Gowen, Wilton T. Wood Jr., Teresa Williams, Terri Wood, Wayne Wood, Kim, Keith, and Kelley Bomar, and Robert Cudney III; 24 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Denton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 at Finch & Finch Chapel by the Rev. John Rhodenizer with burial to follow in Christ Episcopal Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Finch & Finch, Inc. Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
