|William Henry Denton, 74, of Gladys, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at his home. He was the loving husband of Elsie Morris Denton for 52 years.
Mr. Denton was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Lynchburg, a son of the late Robert Clarence Denton and Virginia Ruth Bowman Denton. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was retired from General Electric/Ericsson with 33 years of service where he worked as a welder. Friends knew if he wasn’t home that he was enjoying himself either fishing, hunting, or working in his garden.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William Henry Denton Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Lynchburg; three daughters, Patsy D. Maxey and husband, Leslie, of Rustburg, Vickey D. Pafford and husband, Eric, of Meadowview, and Robyn D. Ballowe of Madison Heights; a sister, Jean Overstreet and husband, Charles, of Statesville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, one great-grandchild, three stepgreat-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear close friends.
Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Clarence Denton, and three sisters, Laura Ellen Kerr, Joyce Evelyn Denton and Barbara Dawn Denton.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Tharp Funeral Home and other times at the family residence, 237 Theta Mill Road, Gladys. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. John Rhodenizer officiating. Interment will follow at Christ Episcopal Cemetery in Gladys.
